Gibson Island Yacht Squadron

Gibson Island Yacht Squadron hosts its Junior events at the very end of a peninsula on Gibson Island.    Roads are narrow and turn-around areas are very small on the island. Please be patient; kindly observe speed limits and any parking instructions issued upon arrival for regattas. Gibson Island is a private gated community; please enjoy the island and respect the privacy of its residents.

Trailer parking and beach launching is at “The Point”. Parking in non-designated places are subject to ticketing by GI Security. Vehicles must be parked on nearby streets, and GIYS provides a shuttle to parked cars.  Gibson Island has a very nice sandy beach area to rig and launch boats.  There is a covered pavilion and bathrooms at “The Point”, but other than that, the sailing area is fairly ‘remote’ by most standards.  Coach and spectator boats can be launched at a nearby ramp inside the Gibson Island community at the Boathouse or Lighthouse Dock.  Most spectators enjoy watching from the beaches on “The Point”.  There are no docks or piers to tie up to near the sailing area, so coach boats should plan to anchor in the shallow water off the beach.

Racing is typically held in areas directly out from the launch area or further out in the bay.  This is a delightful area for sailing and relaxing.  Sailors from clubs with reciprocity, may enjoy the full service clubhouse restaurant and bar, but this is in the interior of the island - there is no food service or WIFI on ‘The Point’.  There are several alternative options for food and a variety of retail stores, etc. in nearby Pasadena (10-15 minutes away). Directions to Gibson Island:  From I-97 Baltimore or Annapolis, take Route 100 EAST, continue after merge on MD- 177 (Mountain Road), follow the signs to Gibson Island.
